The Institute works with UChicago’s Career Services team to offer undergraduate students better experiential learning opportunities and focused resources to support a future career in the climate and energy sector. As part of the partnership with Career Services, the Institute co-sponsors “treks” to cities of strategic importance to the global energy challenge to provide students with an on-the-ground look into the energy and climate challenge and important networking opportunities with key organizations.

Additionally, policymakers, industry, and investors around the world regularly hold key gatherings to discuss the state of the energy transition, network, and forge new programs and partnerships. The United Nations Climate Change Conferences, Global Clean Energy Ministerial, CERA Week, and Bloomberg New Energy Finance Summit are just some prominent examples. The Institute works to secure participation opportunities for select students through competitive processes. Participating students gain valuable experience and relationships that benefit their careers over the long term.

“COP27 has emphasized that the climate challenges we face are local problems just as much as they are global problems. Although international collaboration is essential, we’ve been able to connect with individuals across the world who are making the greatest impact by focusing on what they know best: their own community. I’m very eager to bring back these concepts and ideas to campus and the greater Chicago area.”
